Quality Assurance Strategy

A quality assurance strategy or plan is the starting point for creating quality  assurance initiatives within your organization. Once the vision and strategic  goals have been established, a plan is required to  describe the method for reaching those goals.

A complete plan is comprised of the following sections:

  • Introduction (an overview of the entire document  including purpose, scope, definitions, etc.
  • Quality Objectives (benchmarks for product quality)
  • Management (tasks and responsibilities of those in  charge of quality)
  • Documentation (project & test plans, iteration  plans, requirement documents, user documentation, configuration plans)
  • Standards and Guidelines
  • Metrics
  • Audit Plan
  • Evaluation & Test
  • Problem Resolution
  • Tools, Techniques, and Methodologies
  • Configuration Management
  • Subcontractor Controls (if applicable)
  • Quality Records
  • Training
  • Risk Management

There is a cost associated with each of these steps.  Estimate the cost for each, keeping in mind that costs escalate throughout the development cycle. By addressing these issues early on, you will control and reduce total expenditures for the project.

Remember that quality  assurance is a long-term strategy, not just a one-time sale.
